How It Works
Do I need a whole new window if the glass is broken?
Not always. If the frame is still sound, only the glass or sealed unit needs replacing. The installer checks the frame condition on site before recommending anything. Many uPVC frames in Havering are structurally fine and simply need the glazing unit swapped out.
Is misted double glazing just a cleaning problem?
No. Misting between the panes means the hermetic seal inside the unit has failed, letting moisture in. Cleaning the outside makes no difference. The sealed unit itself needs replacing, that is a straightforward job when the frame is sound.
What happens if I leave a cracked pane without repairing it?
A crack spreads under temperature change and wind pressure. It also breaks the unit’s thermal and acoustic performance immediately, raising heating costs. A cracked pane in a door or low-level position is a safety risk if it shatters.
Can the same type of glass be matched to the rest of the window?
Yes. The installer confirms the specification, single or double glazed, toughened, frosted, or a particular obscure pattern, before ordering. Correct measurement and matching the existing finish are the two steps that matter most.
Will the glazing beads need replacing too?
Sometimes. Beads are removed to take out the old pane and inspected before refitting. If they are cracked or warped, replacements are included in the itemised quote so you know the cost before the installer starts.
Is there any regulation around which glass type must be used?
Yes. Building regulations require toughened or laminated safety glass in certain locations, doors, side panels, and panes below 800 mm from floor level. The installer confirms the correct specification for the opening before any glass is ordered.
