How It Works
How do I know if my existing frame is suitable for a pocket fit?
The installer checks the jambs, sill, and head on-site before quoting. If the frame is rotten, badly out of shape, or showing significant movement, a pocket fit is not appropriate and the quote will set out the full-frame alternative instead.
Will a pocket fit stop draughts and condensation between the panes?
It will if the frame itself is sound. Misted panes are caused by a failed seal in the glazing unit, which a new double-glazed unit resolves. Draughts caused by a deteriorated frame or sill will not be fixed by the pocket fit alone.
What happens if hidden damage is found once the old sash is removed?
The installer stops, documents what was found, and contacts you before proceeding. Nothing additional is done without your agreement, and the revised options are set out in writing before any further work takes place.
Does the surrounding trim have to come off?
Usually not. The aim is to work within the existing opening. Trim stops are used to close the gap between old frame and new unit. The amount of making good depends on the window type and how the original unit was built in.
Is it cheaper to replace all windows at once rather than one at a time?
Doing several windows in one visit reduces the number of call-outs and can lower the overall cost. Some customers replace only the worst windows first. The itemised quote will show the per-window cost so you can decide how many to include.
Do I need building regulations approval for a pocket window replacement?
Replacing a like-for-like window in an existing opening using a pocket fit does not typically require a building regulations application, but the installer will confirm this for your specific property type and window configuration at the survey stage.
