How It Works
Why would I ask for an independent window inspection?
A second opinion before paying for repairs or replacement helps confirm the actual problem, check the scope of work, and reduce the risk of paying for more than is needed. It is particularly useful when comparing quotes or when a previous installer’s paperwork is unclear.
What happens if I delay getting a window checked?
A failed seal left unchecked allows moisture into the frame cavity, which can lead to frame rot in timber windows or mould growth around the reveal. A minor draught caused by a worn weatherseal can worsen over winter and increase heating costs noticeably before it is addressed.
Do I need an inspection if my new windows look fine?
It can still be worthwhile. A window can look acceptable but have missing trickle vents, a failed seal not yet visible as misting, or no FENSA certificate on record. An inspection confirms the installation meets Approved Document L and Approved Document F requirements.
What does the inspection actually check?
The installer checks frame condition, sealed unit integrity, weatherseal continuity, trickle vent presence, and hinge and lock operation. For replacement windows, the inspection also looks at whether the installation appears to meet building regulations and whether the correct paperwork exists.
